I am currently in Columbus, OH working with the kids of Capital Regiment at the last camp before move-ins in a couple of weeks. I won't be moving in right away due to the King & I which I am doing out at Shawnee Mission Theater in the Park. I've been applying to lots of jobs lately. University of Indianapolis, St. Louis Community College, University of Wisconsin-Madison, William & Mary, Washburn, Independence Community College, University of Kansas, to name just a few. So far, no interviews, but lets hope that something might hit this next week.
I saw BLAST! on Thursday night. It is a fun show to see. I liked it, but it definately was not up-to-par with what I had seen on t.v. or had heard on recordings. The cast is much smaller now, the synthesized music was a bit too loud to blend with the brass and percussion, and there were just a few mistakes. The singing was WAY out of tune, but despite all of that, it was still an enjoyable evening. The Music Hall was pretty much filled which is a good thing, I didn't think that all the older people would enjoy the show....but that did....and that made me happy too.
I went to see An American Haunting the other day with my friend Donnie. I think I waisted my money on that...oh well....it was scary....but only when things jumped out at you. I thought the premise of the story was kinda dumb, but they say it is based on a true story...so who knows.
At work I did a catering job for Shawnee Mission West High School's Choir Banquet. They loved it as usual. It was a bit scary though...we almost ran out of Chicken Parm. In fact....for all intents and purposes we did run out of Chicken Parm. We had about 12 pieces left at the end of the night, and those were little pieces because I was in the kitchen cutting what we had brought with us into half size pieces to hopefully help us make it to the end of the meal. It did. *whew*
Was supposed to go camping last weekend with Patrick and Shawn, but it was just too late on Saturday when I got out of my concert and I couldn't get a hold of Patrick to get directions to the camp place anyways.
Speaking of the concert....it went really well! I was very pleased with how the ensemble did. I got lots of compliments from the players and the board members about how the ensemble pieces sounded great. I was happy. Then I was not so happy when the review came out in the Kansas City Star and FAILED to mention my name as being the conductor on THREE of the SIX pieces. GEEZ!!! I had a good chance to get some publicity, but wasn't given it....oh well.
