MOVING!!!

Alrighty.....this is it.  I'm MOVING to St. Louis, MO today. I'm sad about leaving KC after 6 years.  I have made lots of friends here and will miss them and the good times a lot.  I don't really know anyone in St. Louis, but everyone is like, "you'll make friends, don't worry about it."  Well....honestly, I'm worried about it.  I have a lot of good friends here that have come from being at a school together.  Now that I'm a college professor it isn't gonna be like I can be friends with my students. And since I am teaching at a community college, there is only me and another full time faculty member and then like 12 adjunct professors.  It will be different.  New bars, new people, new sites, new sounds, new roads, all that stuff. Wish me luck....for here I go!

So some of you people might have a heart attack because I'm updating my xanga....but now, I have some free time to do so.  Although that free time is in Columbus, OH where we are currently working......did I just call myself a "we" ..... hmmm.......anyways....... I'm here with Capital Regiment and we are finishing up our everyday rehearsals before we head out on the road for our summer tour.   We leave this Sunday to head towards South Carolina and our first contest.  Should be a good time, we are hoping to "surprise" some people with how good we are already at the beginning of the season.

The only other thing of note in my life right now is that my plans for the fall haven't been set yet.  Currently, I will be living in KC still and working with my orchestra.  But, that could all change on June 20 (next Tuesday) if St. Louis Community College-Meramec decides to hire me.  If they do, then I will be back to KC sometime during the middle of July and then head over to STL to look for housing.  I'll move there when I get done with drum corps the second week of August.  Anyone up for helping me move to STL and I'll fly ya back to KC?  Thanks!

I am currently in Columbus, OH working with the kids of Capital Regiment at the last camp before move-ins in a couple of weeks.  I won't be moving in right away due to the King & I which I am doing out at Shawnee Mission Theater in the Park.  I've been applying to lots of jobs lately.  University of Indianapolis, St. Louis Community College, University of Wisconsin-Madison, William & Mary, Washburn, Independence Community College, University of Kansas, to name just a few.  So far, no interviews, but lets hope that something might hit this next week.

I saw BLAST! on Thursday night.  It is a fun show to see.  I liked it, but it definately was not up-to-par with what I had seen on t.v. or had heard on recordings.  The cast is much smaller now, the synthesized music was a bit too loud to blend with the brass and percussion, and there were just a few mistakes.  The singing was WAY out of tune, but despite all of that, it was still an enjoyable evening.  The Music Hall was pretty much filled which is a good thing, I didn't think that all the older people would enjoy the show....but that did....and that made me happy too.

I went to see An American Haunting the other day with my friend Donnie.  I think I waisted my money on that...oh well....it was scary....but only when things jumped out at you.  I thought the premise of the story was kinda dumb, but they say it is based on a true story...so who knows.

At work I did a catering job for Shawnee Mission West High School's Choir Banquet.  They loved it as usual.  It was a bit scary though...we almost ran out of Chicken Parm.  In fact....for all intents and purposes we did run out of Chicken Parm.  We had about 12 pieces left at the end of the night, and those were little pieces because I was in the kitchen cutting what we had brought with us into half size pieces to hopefully help us make it to the end of the meal.  It did.  *whew*

Was supposed to go camping last weekend with Patrick and Shawn, but it was just too late on Saturday when I got out of my concert and I couldn't get a hold of Patrick to get directions to the camp place anyways.

Speaking of the concert....it went really well!  I was very pleased with how the ensemble did.  I got lots of compliments from the players and the board members about how the ensemble pieces sounded great.  I was happy.  Then I was not so happy when the review came out in the Kansas City Star and FAILED to mention my name as being the conductor on THREE of the SIX pieces.  GEEZ!!!  I had a good chance to get some publicity, but wasn't given it....oh well.

Ok..so one week between posts isn't bad is it?  I'm sorry....Facebook is addictive, and well...I'm on that now, and well....you know....a poke here, a poke there, writing on a wall here and there....it takes up A LOT of time!
There is no new news on the job front.  I still don't have a full-time job anywhere.  I do have my part-time job up in Atchison, KS conducting the orchestra there.  And I still have the Brass Band (which doesn't pay though).  Love life=non-existant.   And my life is consumed by rehearsals.  Sunday-Thursday 6:30-10:00 every night.  That's about it.

Life...

Well it seems that I'm not doing a whole lot right now, but I am.  I just woke up...it is 12:28p.m.  What the hell?  I slept for like 10 hours....and I'm STILL tired.  I don't know what's up.  I just started a new diet yesterday and started taking some pills to help (vitamins) and so maybe the new eating habits and boost in vitamins is making me feel this way.

Last night we had our last night dedicated to vocal rehearsals for King and I.  It went pretty good.  There are a few things I'm still concerned about.  But the kids....I love the kids, they are SO cute!  I think they like me too.  And it is really funny, I turn into a totally different person when I'm working with the kids.  I like working with little kids, but I don't think I could do it every day.  There are a few people in the show from UMKC that I have worked with before and they are like, WOW!  I didn't know you had that side of you.  All I've ever seen you do is get frustrated and mad at an accompanist or the orchestra or us if we aren't doing something right, and with the kids you really try to help them out and break it down to their level and make it fun.  That made me feel really good.  Because my views on making music is that first and foremost it should be about having fun.

I have a concert tomorrow night at UMKC, and then another one on Saturday night in Moberly, MO and then on Sunday afternoon at UMKC.  Then I have 2 concerts the following Saturday.  One at 10:00am and another at 8:00p.m.  Then school is done and I can relax probably a bit more.

Oh....I still haven't gotten a job yet for next year.  I wonder if I'm going to have to take some lame 9-5 job to make money.
